Day 133-134: Bye Bye Binky!

I know you’re all shocked at the 2 day update, I am too. πŸ˜‚ But, this was a monumental day I needed to document for forever…Kensie got rid of her binkies!! (Pacifier, whatever.)

We’ve gone through many phases with them where we got her down to only having them at nap/bedtime and it slowly turned back into car rides and then basically, whenever.

The first time we talked about taking them away, she got her molars. Next time, we were moving houses and life was a mess. Then her baby sis was on the way and I just wasn’t fighting that fight…

KB’s pediatrician and dentist both said it was fine for another year, but Chris and I felt like she was ready and old enough to understand getting rid of them.

I read all the methods: cut them, cold turkey, etc etc….

Well we decided to go full bribe mode along with the cold turkey method.

We got her presents for both finishing up potty training (πŸ™„ I’ll save that for another post) and to get her to trade the binkies in. Homegirl LOVES her a good surprise.

SO, I got her a new Elsa Tutu & an Anna and Elsa babydoll that I knew she’d lose her mind over. πŸ€ͺ

K was in a really good mood when Chris brought her home from daycare Monday afternoon…and had a binky hanging out of her mouth. I don’t know why I chose that moment, but I went for it. I told her we had a really big surprise for her if she’d throw her binky in the trash. She immediately said, “okay. Here daddy. Throw in trash.” πŸ˜‚ We told her SHE had to do it. She did. We were a little shocked. Then I was like…shit. We gotta make this count. Go big or go home! I quickly said “go find the rest! They all have to go in the trash for the surprise!” …She did it.

We gave her a new Elsa tutu. She was excited for .2 seconds and then dropped it on the floor, burst into tears and goes “noooo!!! I want my bink binks!”

Internally I was in panic mode. Chris gave me the “yeah, we’re gonna have to do better” face.

I ran into the other room and got the Anna doll and gave it to her. She was PUMPED. A minute later…tears. “But I want Elsa! Please Elsa please?” I looked at Chris. Chris goes, “you’re gonna do it aren’t you. You’re going to give it to her.”

…bet your ass I am. We came this far. We can’t have a meltdown now! 🀣🀣🀣

We told her one more time that if she gets both dolls she never gets her binkies back and they stay in the trash. She said “deal”.

Well, it. Freaking. Worked!!!

“THANKKKK YOU!!! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!” <– I think she said this like 8273 times.

Our last concern was bedtime. I was sure that’s when the meltdown would come. But….NOPE!!! She asked for them and I reminded her of our deal and said she can take her babydolls to bed instead. She said okay and just went to sleep. 😯

She refused to pose with them, but they haven’t left her side since. πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

They go to daycare every day and bed every night with her. And everything in between. πŸ˜†

I won’t lie. I felt (and still feel a little) guilty when she asks for her binky. I know it’s a comfort item for her, but I also know it’s a habit that we have to quit at some point. πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

I’m still shocked at how smoothly it went, but tonight marks night #3 and I think it’s safe to say we are in πŸ‘πŸΌ the πŸ‘πŸΌ clear πŸ‘πŸΌ!!!

Moral of the story? K is always down to be bribed with surprises…just make sure they’re good enough. πŸ˜‚
