K mastered potty training…and L let K hold her without crying!
I didnβt say she smiled π
On Thursday one of my best friends, Casey, was in town with her kiddos! We took the crew to Monkey Joes and they had a blast.
Of course K didn’t want to stay in the toddler area and wanted to play all of the arcade games that she was 2′ too small for.
After Kensie’s fun packed days at B’s and a busy morning once she got back, Thursday afternoon I was stuck with a fussy baby and an overtired toddler that refused to nap. And for the first time in 8 weeks, I decided 2 children is plenty and we don’t need anymore. π
Luckily, L cheered up and K finally got some rest so the rest of our weekend was less miserable and I didn’t have to completely lose my shit. π
OH, and from 0-100 her excitement level for seeing Leighton again after being gone a few days was easily 500.
Alllll the kisses π₯°
Kensie was solid entertainment as usual the last few days, and she got a special delivery that took her Elsa performances to a whole new level…
Thanks Aunt Shell, sorta. π€£
Last night we ran an errand to Home Depot for a few things and Kens had the strangest obsession with this light…
Yes, that photo was taken in a restaurant.
Yes, she brought it inside with her.
She then proceeded to tell the people at the table next to us it was for her playroom (it’s not) and that she needed scissors so she could open it. π€¦πΌββοΈπ
After Leighton’s afternoon of fussiness on Thursday, she was back to her happy self for the weekend (thank you sweet baby Jesus).
As peaceful as it was with only 1 of them home, I sure did miss watching these cuties “play” together!
It’s been a relaxing couple of days with just Elle home! She turned 7 weeks on Monday and has started babbling and cooing!
And modelingJK. The other 72994 I took look like this. π€£
We switched up our schedule since K was gone and hit the gym for the evening classes this week! Leighton timed her naps perfectly with my workouts and other than one scream sesh where daddy came to the rescue, going from 2 to 1 makes everything seem extremely easy. π
While she may be growing quickly, she’s still the good ole pooper we know and love. I had to remind the whole 5p that on Wednesday’s, we wear orange…and L took that memo a little too seriously.
Added her own orange to her romper
But hey, if blowouts are the worst thing I have to deal with – no complaints here!!
KB has been having the best time at B’s house but I can’t wait to get that crazy kiddo back tomorrow..though I’m sure she’ll be mostly excited to see Leighton.
Beach day with her cousins! All this sand makes me cringe π
It was nice and quiet and the playroom stayed spotless for 3 whole days…but I’m so ready for another Elsa performance! π
We had a great weekend full of memories and blowouts. π I know you’re all shocked.
We went through 4 outfits on Saturday. FOUR.
Yesterday I took Kensie to see the Lion King while Chris took Elle to run some errands. I thought K would be so excited for time alone with just mommy…Instead she got SO upset that L wasn’t coming with us and cried because she was going in “Daddy’s truck”. “noooo!!! π I want my sister!! That’s Leighton’s seat!!!”
Leighton babe, we gotta work on these expressions π€£
They are so dang sweet together and I’ve always known KB has the biggest heart but her love for “my sister!!” confirms it more each day!
She DID enjoy the movie once I convinced her she would get to see Leighton again in just a little bit. π The “scary” parts were definitely scarier when not animated but I explained that Scar is naughty so she just kept saying “he is naughty!!!!” during the bad parts and pushed through like a champ.
On Friday we braved it up to the gym in the afternoon as a family of 4! K was excited to be back in her stomping grounds and it was like she never left (hence the umbrella in the video…that was over the Minnie Mouse house she brought out to the middle of the floor π€¦πΌββοΈ. Also, wasn’t raining.)
I was able to do my first “RX” WOD back with a barbell and I’ve definitely got a ways to go, but it felt pretty great and not as heavy as I thought it might. π¬
4 rounds with a 3:00 clock:
8 burpees over bar
12 deadlifts (65lb)
9 hang power snatches
6 overhead squats
Complete a round, rest the remainder of the 3:00. Repeat 4x…these were the last 2 sets.
Chris chased K around to make sure she stayed out of the way and luckily, L had no choice but to stay put. π
Sheβs happy because she just had a blow out.
I’m doing a 28 day nutrition challenge with the gym right now and have noticed the biggest difference in Leighton’s eating and sleeping habits this last week!
Since my calories have been more nutrient dense, so have hers. She’s eating less frequently and sleeping longer stretches at a time. She’s been a quick eater and great sleeper since Day 1, but now she’s going 3-4 hour stretches during the day and has gone the last 2 nights from 8p-5a without waking up to eat! (She was waking up around 1-2a to eat). ππΌ
Those cheeks β€οΈβ€οΈ #milkstorage
The rest of our weekend consisted of watching K dance to “let it goooo”, painting, playing doctor and talking non stop…all while L slept.
We bribed her to stay in her seat and eat noodles by saying we would go to the playground after. It worked.
Kensie day cheese with your cart! βNoooo I donβt wannttt tooooβ πππΌChris and I each had at least 14 physicals this weekend
Play date with James!
Leighton and Laylaβs version of a play date π (also, she was only down there for a few minutes. Relax)8a on a Saturday. Woof. βοΈ
OH, and I painted K’s nails for her so she’d stop coloring them with markers π
“What color do you want?” “…everything”
This morning we dropped Kensie off with B (her grandma) for a fun few days with her cousins. I’m sure when she gets back she’ll be more excited to see Leighton than mom and dad. π€·πΌββοΈβ€οΈ
Leighton and I are finding our groove as I added working out back into my schedule this week.
She’s had her fussy moments, but so far, so good! Hopefully she starts to let the loud music and smell of sweat soothe her like it did for Kensie. π
I missed it but she gave Coach Shelby some smiles! β€οΈ
The hardest part about coming back from the time off and you know, birthing a kid, is truly listening to my body and giving it time to heal even when mentally I’m trying to “go go go!”
My internal tissues are still soft and loose and while it feels like more of a mental battle than a physical one, I know my body will thank me in the long run!
First time running in months and Iβd like to say it felt good but really it just hurt my boobs π€·πΌββοΈπ
I modified Wednesday’s workout to a lower volume version:
Kelly – 5 rounds of:
400m run
30 box jumps
30 wallballs
I did 200m run, 15 step ups and 15 wallballs instead. This way, I can reintroduce impact with a lower volume and strengthen my pelvic floor more before I go ham. I’m not trying to pee myself every time I jump for the rest of my life. π
This morning we headed to our Chiro appt and got to see Dr. Christina! Leighton is still sniffling and I’ve been sucking snot out of her nose with a syringe which is super fun for both of us. π Dr. C did some pressure work on her sinuses to drain them and I caught this super flattering photo to share with you all…
πππ poor L. She didnβt even fuss, though!
To recover, we did some retail therapy π
Checking out all the Magnolia Homes decor that she begged me for π
When we made it home from our errands, she spent the rest of the afternoon napping. 2 sleep hacks for Leighton babe:
1. Lay her on her side. She takes the LONGEST naps that way.
2. Swaddle her. And not in a soft blanket because she bust out of that in 5 seconds flat. Need that handy dandy Velcro. Then she makes it to at least 5a before a hand breaks free. π
Things L is a fan of: sleeping. Thank you, Jesus. (see exhibit A and B above)
Things L is not a fan of: being cold…and being worn in a baby carrier
Only one of us is happy in this moment
Elle kicks her feet so much and tries to wiggle her way out with grunts and fusses anytime I put her in here. π Luckily she only puts up a fight for so long before she eventually gives in and goes to sleep.
Overall, she is such a happy and easy going babe. If she’s not hungry or gassy, she will just lay, squeak, stare and smile!
And she lovesss to cuddle. This is her other βinstanapβ position
I love my days with the littlest nugget – but always look forward to when KB comes home! Kensie goes to daycare during the day, but from the second she walks in the door until she goes to bed, she’s pure entertainment.
From “painting” her nails with markers (yes, this is now a daily occurrence) to extremely dramatic Frozen performances, there is never a dull moment.
This next one had me in TEARS from laughing. I shared this on my Instagram but it needs to be documented here so she has it for life…she’s acting out the part of the movie where Anna is sad that Elsa won’t come out and play with her.
Please notice that I had to give her “elsa braids” in between these performances π
After this she’d stand and laugh and say “Alexa, again!!!” She’s gonna crush it in drama class. ππΌ
I’m going to leave you all with this creepy ass photo because I feel like I need to expose more people to what I had to experience today. Can someone please tell Buy Buy Baby this is a TERRIFYING sight to walk up to?!
Okay, maybe it’s just me. But at first glance I legitimately thought someone left their baby in a car seat and walked away. π€·πΌββοΈ π€¦πΌββοΈ I did a double triple take before my heart rate returned to normal! π
We all had such a great weekend and Leighton had her first trip to the beach!!
Girls day!
Anyone who knows me knows I am not a fan of the beach π but Kensie LOVES it and her best friend Henley was in town so we took the girls to play for a little bit in the morning before it got too hot for the littlest nugget. The weather was actually perfect and L enjoyed her nap in the breeze!
These cuties had the best time jumping in the (4β deep) water and getting sand into every single crevasse of their bodies π
These photos look very sweet and peaceful but the chaos of 2 toddlers and an infant taking a trip to the beach is REAL. Ashley and I piled all 3 girls into one car and played a solid game of carseat tetris that resulted in having to put Leighton’s seat in by climbing through the trunk. LOL (don’t call DCF. I promise it was safer than it sounds and no, she didn’t ride in the trunk). π
As we were trying to get the “big” girls changed and ready to leave, a car pulled up next to us with a family and older teenagers. The sweet mom looks at us and goes βit gets easierβ – which just explains how disasterous we must have seemed. Hahahah!
She was very sweet though and it did make me stop and take a breath and think about the fact that they will only be so little for so long. β€οΈ
Speaking of growing too quickly, it wouldn’t be a post without these girls’ signature photo: “I hold her! Take a picture!” -KB
And the days of forced snuggles will surely be short lived as well π
I know Leighton always looks miserable but I promise she smiles at KB as long as she’s not trying to hold her. HA!
Leighton appreciated her snuggles from Aunt Ashley and Uncle Will this weekend a little more than ones from K.
This was their last weekend in Florida as “residents” and while we had the best time and made some great memories, we are already missing having this whole crew together. π
Luckily, Kensie doesn’t understand it just yet – and she had such a fun weekend with a few of her sweet friends!
In between play dates, Kensie ran in circles around the house, made us put her tutu on way too many times, danced and asked me take photos of her.
The tutu and socks are her current obsession π€¦πΌββοΈβMommy! Take my picture! Okay let me see it!β π
OH. And “painted” her nails.
So proud to show me.I should probably take the markers out of her playroom π
Meanwhile, Leighton slept. Because her big sister exhausts us all.
I smile when I think about sleep too, kid. #napqueen
Today marks 6 weeks for me and L which means I’ve been officially cleared by the doctor! I’m working on getting into a new schedule so I can get back to the gym consistently and maybe not walk like a baby giraffe for 3 days after 50 squats. π
Homie was screaming through the end of my workout soooo she ended up with sweaty boob milk π€·πΌββοΈ
Happy 6 weeks, sweet Elle!!! Now time, slow. down!!!
Today was Leighton’s first day at her “home away from home,” CFEO!!
On Wednesdayβs, we wear ORANGE!
One of our awesome members gave her this as a gift π€£
Working out went better than I imagined it would this morning! I was going to wait until next week to go back, but I figured I should stop making excuses and get my ass in gear. π
There’s a ton of information out there about what you can/can’t do and at what point you can/can’t do those things postpartum. I’m no expert in that realm, but I’m a strong believer that everyone is different and you have to listen to your body. Mentally, I want to do it all and push through. I also know that my body just went through a LOT and if I’m not smart about how I treat it while I heal, it’ll only hurt me in the long run!
Today’s WOD was:
15:00 AMRAP
20 Alternating DB Snatches
15 Box Jump Overs
9 Calorie Row or Ski
I did the snatches from the hang position since I didn’t want my lower back to tighten up and I subbed burpees for my box jumps because my pelvic floor isn’t quite ready for the Impact of jumping.
It felt great to sweat and get my heart rate up again — and huge thanks to L for the few pauses I got to take to put her binky back in when she fussed. π
Yesterday to celebrate Leighton’s 5 week birthday we took a shopping trip to L’s favorite place, Target!!! (I love having kids to blame my bad habits on) She was so overwhelmed with excitement that she slept the entire time. π However, we did use the best product EVER and I have to share it with you guys. I posted this before with K but in case you missed it – this is a Binxy Baby!
It’s a cart hammock!! It holds the car seat now and when she’s a little bigger, she can sit right in it!! I actually found out about it when K and I were at target and another mom was using it. Yesterday when I put it in the cart another mom asked me about it and took a picture of it so she could order one, too…what I’m saying is, Target, you should carry these. You’d sell out!!
So I can fit all the things under her ππΌ
We also got a wonderful delivery!! Leighton’s hospital bunny came home!
There’s a local lady that makes these sweet bunnies out of hospital blankets as a keepsake! She made Kensie’s a few years ago, too. Both are made from the very first blanket they were wrapped in once they were born! β€οΈ (I washed them first…just to clarify. π)
Kensie about flipped when she saw it in L’s room. “That’s MINE!!!” Had to take a minute to calm her down and show her that they both had one. π€£ #toddlerlife
Both girls are still a little stuffy but Leighton has been much calmer and happier the last 2 days since her adjustment. The worst is having to suction her nostrils…thank goodness she’s too young to remember how much she hates me when I do it to her!!! Lol
Trying to get her first though her binky so she can suck on her hand instead…
And I’ll let your night end the same way ours did tonight, with a lovely performance by the artist herself. (and she’s made Maria give her “dos braids like Ana” every day this week at daycare…)
Sorry for the noise and terrible video, I was burping Leighton π
We kicked it off with by celebrating the 4th – our first Holiday as a family of 4! Elle slept through the neighborhood block party AND the 30 minute firework show that happening in our backyard. Kensie was the opposite of asleep, but wanted nothing to do with the fireworks.
…and nothing to do with photos π€¦πΌββοΈ
This weekend, my Aunt Kris and Uncle Kevin came to town to visit and to meet Leighton!
And Elle was obviously pretty stoked to meet them!!
We ventured out to the Winter Garden Farmer’s Market where K got her very first face paint art, followed by her first French braid!
She said it was Elsa! And daddy got her popcorn the size of her body. And to continue her Elsa obsession, she brought me her brush and a hair tie and said βI have Elsa hair?β π
I’ll admit, this babe constantly asking me to do her hair is every bit as exciting as I thought it would be when I found out I’d be a “girl mom”. π
We finished the weekend by taking them to the best restaurant ever: The Garlic!
Leighton slept the evening away while her sister ran in the rain, jumped off benches and redecorated the restaurant.
Both K and L have had stuffy noses this weekend (ohhh the joys of a newborn and a toddler that brings home her germs) but they both seem to be clearing up finally. The chiropractor was closed last week so it was the first week L didn’t get adjusted since she’s been born and this weekend she had her first 2 scream fests. I don’t think it was a coincidence! We made an impromptu visit today for an adjustment and to get her sinuses to drain and she seems to be much calmer and the stuffiness has improved!
^^ my friend Brenna got us this awesome carrier and I am OBSESSED!!! I had never even heard of them before but it’s so soft, light weight and comfy and she can face forward or backward! I linked it here for any mommas looking or if you need a solid baby shower gift!!
And finally…we got the rest of our Newborn/Family photos back!! I’m only slightly biased, but I love every single one of them…especially the ones below that show you what Kensie was REALLY doing the entire time, ha!!!
This was her playing “monkeys jumping on a bed” and the aftermath of her ripping her bow out of her hair like a true sasshole…
But sheβs still cute…
And then there’s these, which show the many faces of Leighton…
She’s extremely expressive as you can see, and she’s now added a smile to these poses!
Just not when Kensie holds her. π
But seriously – I am so glad we took the time to get these memories captured and our first “family of 4” photos taken! If anyone in Orlando is looking for an AMAZING photographer – Briana Lugo is your girl!!
A just like that…Leighton is one whole month old! π
She had her check up on Monday and I could’ve sworn she was much bigger than K at 1 month, but luckily I saved their forms from the doctor…and I was wrong!! Crazy how quickly you forget. π L is a whopping .35 inches and .4oz smaller than K was at this point.
Most importantly, she’s healthy and happy! We even got some smiles from her today!
At her appointment, her doctor put her on her tummy to test her “tummy time” – this little CrossFit prodigy rolled right on over!!! π― And now, she’s officially done with tummy time, because every time since, she’s continued to just roll right on to her back. πͺπΌ
Leighton is ridiculously strong. Her grip and muscle control is unreal. If she doesn’t want to move her hand from her face it’s like arm wrestling a grown adult to move it. Same with putting on her PJs. If she doesn’t want to bend her leg, you can’t bend it for her. Homegirl does it on her OWN time.
Alas, she is only 4 weeks old so life has basically consisted of eating, sleeping and pooping.
Oh. And shopping. Of course. π
She’s also a very noisy baby, and I don’t mean crying. L is so squeaky and grunty and even snores sometimes. π€£
And now, we’re looking forward to a fun 4th with friends and spending the long weekend with family in town!
We hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July weekend!! πΊπΈ
Our little L turns one month old this week and I’m not too sure where the last 4+ weeks have gone! It feels like she was born a week ago, but I also barely remember life before her!
Favorite part of the day: these snuggles.
We had quite the jam-packed weekend and these girls were troopers through it all!
I think L hit a growth spurt on Friday because she slept All. Day. Long. It was the perfect day for it because I decided to take my chances and get my nails done AND we spontaneously took our first road trip as a family of 4 to Jax for the night!
Straight chilled and then put herself to sleep!
It was a quick trip home for one of my best friends 30th birthdays – and the girls got a little QT with Gramma and Grampa while mom & dad had a fun night out!
Leighton is still working on crushing Kensie’s blow out record. We’ve had one a day all weekend…and 2 on Sunday. π Currently accepting applications for a nanny that has to do nothing other than change diapers (because it’s all they’ll have time for…)
I literally JUST put this on her.
I think Kensie has moved completely past her minor jealousy stage, so other than being a typical toddler (π), she’s been the absolute BEST big sister. She’s still protective (or controlling…) over her and tells people not to touch her when they come over or pick her up. Lol!
She constantly asks to take pictures with “sister”, mainly because she knows that means she gets to hold her. And in K’s defense, L was less than pleased BEFORE we passed her off in this photo. π Maybe one day she’ll smile.
K is such a great helper when it comes to Leighton! If she’s crying, K will run clear across the house to check on her and give her a binky or sing “twink-lay twink-lay little star” to her. π also if you want her to do something and she won’t, just say it’s for Leighton and she abides. For now, anyway. Ha!!
βUgga Muggaβ aka Eskimo kisses π₯°
While L slept, ate and pooped the weekend away, K had a blast with some of her friends from birthday parties to staying up way too late and eating nothing but sugar for dinner – because when you’re a kiddo, that’s what weekends are for!
At least they split the sugar rush? These girllllssss melt my heart when theyβre together! π―ββοΈπ₯°
Kensieβs fave: tutus and celebrating her friends birthdays!
And to top it all off, this weekend K kept randomly hugging me and saying “thank you mommy!! I love you, you’re my best fwend.” …so excuse me while I go sob. ππ₯°
